I would like to take a minute to call BS on something that I’ve been seeing floating around on fitspo memes and even on t-shirts.  It’s the quote “you can’t squat with us.”

What’s up with that?  It’s like being a mean girl at the gym. I don’t want to wear a t-shirt like that to the gym.  You can totally squat with me.  I love having a workout partner LOL.

I know that it’s supposed to be funny, but here’s the thing, in a world where women are constantly tearing each other down and comparing ourselves to one another, do we really need to create more division?  I think we have enough of that.

If we are honest, I think we can all think of at least one time we have been on the receiving end of judgment or cattiness from another woman.  If we get even more honest with ourselves, I think we can probably think of a time that we let our own insecurities get the best of us and judged other women.

Unfortunately, women sometimes fall into the comparison trap.  We look at other women and instantly think they are prettier, smarter, thinner, fitter, taller, shorter, funnier, etc. and if we aren’t careful, we left that affect the way we feel about ourselves and project that onto other people.

But I’m here to say it’s time to get over that.  Instead of competing, let’s empower each other instead. It’s time to embrace sisterhood, support one another, and show up in the world as our true, authentic selves.

Here are 5 reasons we need to stop competing and start collaborating:

1. One woman’s success is inspiration for another.

There’s no reason to see the success of other women as a threat to our own success.  In fact, the exact opposite is true.  A woman succeeding and crushing it, whether it be in the workplace, in the gym, as an entrepreneur, hell, even with a killer outfit, that’s freaking inspiration.  If she can do it, that means I can to.  I love to see women succeeding in their endeavors, and in fact, those are the people I seek out.  I want to pick their brain.  I want to know what steps they took to achieve the success they have gotten.

2. We don’t need to be in competition with each other; There’s enough for all of us.

When we choose to have an abundance mindset, we are never threatened by other women or by their success because there is enough success to go around for all of us.  When we live in this place, we have a deep sense of personal worth and are secure in own skin.  When we choose to adopt an abundance mindset, we cheer each other on.  We are genuinely excited and happy for the accomplishments of other women.  We’re too busy being happy for others to have feelings of envy or jealousy.

3. A kick ass community of women helps you level up.

When you find your tribe, a group of women who are making moves, taking action, and getting shit done, it forces you to level up.  Surrounding yourself with like-minded women is one of the best ways to find and keep your mojo.  And thanks to the internet, that’s not a hard thing to do.  The internet allows us to meet and connect with like-minded women from all over the world to add accountability, connection, and develop friendships.

4. Empowering each other is so much more fun.

Think of that one girlfriend (or hopefully, a bunch of girlfriends) who you know always has your back.  The one you call to express your excitement about a new promotion, or the personal record you just set at the gym, or the bomb ass recipe you just created?  The one you just know is going to be so happy for you.  The one who encourages you and tells you how proud they are of you.  The one who cheers you up when you’re feeling bummed.  Wouldn’t you agree that we all need more girlfriends like that?  The world needs more women like that, right?

The kind of woman that doesn’t have to unscrew another woman’s light bulb in order to shine.

Yes, the world needs more women like this.

5. Together we can accomplish more.

Can we be honest and toot our own horns for a minute? Women, we are totally badass.  We are legit the best multitaskers.  We are the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs.  We can create humans (who else can say that?).  Basically, we can handle anything life throws at us.

When we stick together, have each other’s backs, and inspire and motivate one another, the possibilities of what we can accomplish are endless.  In the words of Beyonce, “Who run the world? Girls.”

Listen, it’s not a competition between women, and there’s no reason for there to be one.  Instead of tearing one another down, let’s stick together.  Let’s appreciate each other and have each other’s backs.  There’s nothing more powerful than a group of strong, connected women who are in the pursuit together.

Strong women encourage each other, motivate each other, inspire each other, celebrate accomplishments together, keep each other accountable, and of course we laugh (and sometimes cry) together.

As you can tell, I love developing relationships and creating community.  This is exactly the reason I created #FitTribe Coaching.
